[MPlayer-users] Creating 6.1 sound from 5.1 source.

I have a 6.1 speaker setup (4 and 5 are left and right, and 6 is full rear).

When I have 5.1 input, either as ac3 or dts, my receiver (Denon 3808) is not
smart enough to make a virtual 6th channel and use my rear speaker.

Only when I play ac3 Dolby digital EX for ac3, or "DTS EX DSTRC6.1" or "DTS
EX MTRX6.1", does the 6th speaker do anything.

I use mplayer -ac hwdts,hwac3 for playing.

Is there a way to get mplayer to make a 6th channel in ac3 and dts mode so
that my rear channel will be used on 5.1 input?

I looked at the man page, and it seemed that pan might help. I tried
something like this:
pan=8:
1:0:0:0:0:0:0:0
0:1:0:0:0:0:0:0
0:0:1:0:0:0:0:0
0:0:0:1:0:0:0:0
0:0:0:0:1:0:0:0
0:0:0:0:0:1:0:0

mplayer -channels 8 -af pan=8:1:0:0:0:0:0:0:0:0:1:0:0:0:0:0:0:0:0:1:0:0:0:0:0:0:0:0:1:0:0:0:0:0:0:0:0:1:0:0:0:0:0:0:0:0:1:0:0:0:0:0:0:.5:.5:1:0:0:0:0:0:0:0:0:1 -ac hwdts,hwac3, dvd://24 -dvd-device .

Of course, that didn't do anything at all.

Is there a way?
