[MPlayer-users] Use Linux PC as HD Movie Player

I'd like to use my PC as a movie player for HD movies, Blu-Rays, DVDs, etc.  I have a powerful i7 processor and a decent video card: GeForce 660-ti, and I'm running CentOS 6.3 64-bit.  I connected the HDMI-out of my video card to my LCD TV and I play HD content on the TV via mplayer.  That works.


But, the playback isn't 100 percent right.  Every few seconds I see an effect which is hard to describe: it's looks like several horizontal lines that ripple down the display.  It's most noticeable in high-motion scenes.  It's almost as if half of one frame is being displayed along with half of the previous frame.  This doesn't occur if I play the same exact content on my computer monitor which has the same resolution, but connects to the PC via a DVI cable.  (NOTE: this effect isn't caused by interlacing.  I know what that looks like and this is different.).  The problem occurs if I play MPEG files, or even raw RGB files, so it isn't caused by the CPU being too slow to decode the MPEG video.

Has anyone noticed this effect?  What is the cause?  Is the graphics card not powerful enough to display to both the 1920x1080 computer monitor and the 1920-x1080 TV screen at the same time?
