Not really, nobody has had the time to do all the small things
necessary for that.
Things that I think would have to be done:
- Update internal libass (I am not yet comfortable with removing it)
- Possibly remove libmpeg2
- Pick a longer-supported FFmpeg release and check MPlayer works with it
- Create a release branch, and make that one check out the latest
  version of above release branch of FFmpeg

There might be a few other steps (besides testing, especially
on more unusual systems) that I missed.
