Thanks for the info, the project sound quite nice.
I do not want to belittle it at all, but I would like to point that there
exist a class of inexpensive and readily-available with standard drivers
hardware that can serve as a remote control for video playback: wireless
keypads. They do not have as many keys as usual RCs, but they have enough,
and the keys are usually much nicer than the usual rubber ones on RCs.
My parents have been using one to control the small PC and MPlayer front-end
I have plugged behind their TV for years and are quite satisfied, more so
than with normal RCs. As for myself, I am since recently in need of a RC and
I have opted for a wireless joypad, because it seems there are fun things to
do with the analog controls (also, I have no other use of a keypad, while
Bubble Bobble just arrived on the archive...).
Also, if I may hazard a suggestion, since you seem into hardware, there is
another component that is missing when people want to use a PC as a
living-room video player: the small secondary display to show the time and
other short info. If anyone has a pointer, I would like to see it. And if
not, this may be the next nice project.
Regards,
