And caught all but one of my "other errors" in the process. ^_^ The
remaining one is a grouping issue, solvable IMO only by hyphens, so I
might leave it alone since I don't think I've won a hyphenation argument
yet and I don't want to step out of policy.

Not ideal, but this works as a solution to the "amount of bits" problem;
however, it doesn't really address the one I referred to above, about
"when" vs. "then" (since, for reasons I don't think I could easily
articulate, it feels clunky to use one if we also use the other).

Michael's addressed my uncertainty about "high frequency", so that can
be dealt with easily enough... I'll get to these shortly, if I don't get
too distracted by the other (non-MPlayer-related) project which a bit of
random poking around has suddenly shown to be perhaps feasible after
all. ^_^
