I dislike trailing whitespace as well.  I remove it when I change the
line anyway.  It is a purely cosmetic change, so I mostly just don't
bother.  IIRC I have removed trailing whitespace from some XML docs in
separate commits.  If you feel strongly about this, go ahead, I won't
mind.
