I really don't think I misunderstand CE.  He is intentionally hostile.

I loled at the wording and at the notion that regressions are being
introduced by the truckload from the libav side into ffmpeg.

I do not care at all what CE does with FFmpeg or how much time he spends
on that.  And I don't think I have to as it does not have any bearing on
MPlayer, where most of his work over the years was good and still is.
