Because then the docs (and the persons handling it) would look
older than now.

Seriously: SGML is a superset of XML and as such basically the same,
however the DTDs are slowly drifting apart since development focuses on
XML not SGML. Further the tools for XML are far superior to those for
SGML; simply compare the wealth of XSLT processors to the DSSSL ones
(yeah, when restricting to XML one could use both... :)).

You might want to look into the list archive for details but don't
forget to wear your asbethos if you dare to restart such threads. :)
