I know that, it would be morely to seperate the tech docs, the manpages, and the html docs. It's a mess right now :)

It's a more standard name, and easyier to reckonize for new users, and documentation.html is the index file right? It contains links to the other files. I, at least, when I wanted to read the docs, didn't know which file to open first. On the homepage, http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/index.html, index.html is documentation.html also, isn't it?

That doesn't have anything to do with it, you must have understood me wrong.
Right now, before being installed mplayer.1, the english one is in main/DOCS, in the same directory as the html docs (???), and the translated ones are in main/DOCS/{Hungrian,German,...}, also in the same directory as the html docs. The manpage is installed to PREFIX/man afterwards (that must be what you mean with a system-wide location)
What I suggested is putting the man pages in seperate directories (by locale -- so main/DOCS/man/$LOCALE), and not in the same directories as the html docs (I am still talking BEFORE installing, later they indeed will be installed to system-wide locations, read below.)

Same here, I meant BEFORE installing.
So before installing the translations would be in main/DOCS/man/$LOCALE, and they would be installed to $PREFIX/man/$LOCALE. The english one should be installed by default to $PREFIX/man, right?
I'll send a patch after you reply to this message.
