Yeah, this was a quick hack as I was going to watch a movie with
some friends the day after, and the area displayed on the TV-set
was just to damn small. :) It could have been solved with other
methods, but I needed some quick interaction, and this solved it
for me. I've since then discovered some (quite a few) flaws with
the method, and a rewrite is in order. It was a first good
exercise at adding features to mplayer, and I won't stop now. :)
Yeah, I didn't add any way of translating the image to a new
location, but that should be quite trivial. Only real problem
is to find available hotkeys that sit close together. ;)
Recording shouldn't be impossible. Isn't this type of information
stored inside DVDs aswell, to allow people watching the 4:3-
version of a 2.35:1-movie to see the "real action"? In that case,
it could perhaps be extracted and re-used on the encoded movie
aswell. In any case, adding some kind of recording sounds actually
useful (perhaps by using some kind of 'trackmark'-hotkey, so not
every motion you do while "editing" the movie gets into the
history.
