there is no problem with your patch, it looked ok to me, and i esp. like
your solution for adding unicode mappings to fonts.

the problem is that no active maintainer is here, to test & commit your
patch...

(don't count on me, i left main maintainership, a si'm busy with g2, and
since that i can't really follow all the changes of main)
