I STRONGLY agree.  Also merely checking for the existence of a lib64
dir is not sufficient, because one may exist because of other BROKEN
software, but not be the preferred place for installation.  The user
should have to EXPLICITLY specify, not only that the system is x86-64,
but that they are on a broken system and NEED the libs to go into
lib64
