Hi there
I have tried for a while to get rid of a problem I have with mplayer. I 
posted to a debian-user list, mplayer-user list and have not got an 
answers at all. Searching google I see that others have had/are having 
similar problems and that they also doesn't get to the solution. So Now 
i forward my original message to this list in hope of getting a response.

Hello.
I compiled the latest version of mplayer v1.0pre4 as described here:
http://www.princessleia.com/MPlayer.html

I am using kernel 2.6.7 with an aureal Vortex (au8820) soundcard working
very nice. I can play music and change volume with alsamixer, and the
volume-control in xmms is changing the volume. But mplayer is not able
to do this.

These messages are coming:
alsa-control: mixer attach  error: No such file or directory
ALSA lib control.c:654:(snd_ctl_open_noupdate) Invalid CTL

I use udev to create my device-nodes or what they are called.

$ l /dev/snd

Another problem I have is that gmplayer alwas starts in fullscreen mode,
and I am not able to stop this.

Any suggestions?
