binary driver from ati. Version 3.7.6 has 9800XT support.

I don't know! It's just that I always seen on forums that it writes R350 NJ
for 9800 XT cards.
ATI R350SE AH (R9800SE)
ATI R350 AK (Fire GL unknown)
ATI R350 NH (R9800)
ATI R350LE NI (R9800LE)
ATI R350 NJ (R9800)
ATI R350 NK (Fire GL X2)
NH is 9800 non-pro/pro. The only suitable model left is NJ.
Another possibility (since NJ model exists in 3.7.0 driver, which
doesn't support XT cards) is that some hack was added to identify 9800
XT as (some other) 9800 card. But who cares? If even official drivers
has such errors, it wouldn't be a shame for mplayer to have the same.
