Huh?  We seem to have a misunderstanding here.  I understood from the
documentation coming with your patch that this slave command can be
used to load subtitles from a different file.  So that if I run

  mplayer -sub /path/foo.sub movie.avi

and later use the slave command

  sub_reload /path/foo.sub /path2/bar.sub

bar.sub will be used for subtitles instead of foo.sub.

Is that not the case?
