    Your understanding is right. And therefore you need to know that bar.sub
is to substitute foo.sub and not other.sub.
    Just as a side note. MPlayer is capable of loading several subtitle files
at time (try to play movie.nut when movie.srt, movie.sub and movie.smi are in
the same directory,ad all of them will be loaded). The subtitles originating
from the same file are contained in a sub_data structure, which is referenced
by set_of_subtitles[].
