Because you have gcc in /usr/local/bin I guess you have libstdc++.so.3 in 
/usr/local/lib .. right? Do you have that path in /etc/ld.so.conf? If not, 
add it and run "ldconfig". Or you can type "export 
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/usr/local/lib" before running mplayer.
