[Mplayer-users] simple question about codecs - mpegs, avis

I've finally got mplayer working.  :)  There are two file formats that
I'm having trouble with picking the right codec.  If

mpeg1  files can't find a codec.

>From ~/.mplayer/codecs.conf
videocodec mpeg12

  driver libmpeg2
  dll "libmpeg2"

There is no driver libmpeg2 - I use mtv and gtv from smpeg to play the
mpeg files as a workaround.  What did I miss?  Therre were no compile
errors during the section of libmpeg, but a driver didn't get compiled.

The last file format was avi files.  I don't know if there are different
types.  These play in xanim.  I can't find what type of avi format it
is.  But there is no codec linked in mplayer.  (One of them was created
with xawtv)
