Possible.  I have a SoundBlaster 32 soundcard.  There aren't any
significant problems with it that I know of, though I am not terribly
well informed in that area.

Apparently.  Most of the other files I have are at least 22khz.

Ahh, yes.  That works much better for those files.

However, there are still a couple of .avi files with the same problem
that I cannot seem to fix.  Appended to the end of this email is the
output from attempting to play one of these files.  It appears to be
using -afm 2.  I have tried all of the other -afm options, to no
avail.  

Once again, the problem is that the output seems to be at the wrong
speed (pitch shifted?).  It is synced with the video, but is mostly
unintelligible.

Is this a problem with the sound card, sound driver, or mplayer
software?

Thanks for all the help.  It is extremely nice to be able to play
movies in Linux.
