[MPlayer-users] Feature request: remote-control mode

I don't know much about that so my _naive_ point is:
 Can't there be a common remote control protocol so we can remove
 weird controls command from mplayer and just let generic hooks in
 mplayer.c ?

 This way we could have frontends for termcap, lirc, readline, *emacs,
 blah, ... MPlayer remaining the backend player - still with a
 simple keyboard support.

I guess this discussion should move to -dev-eng as it's about to become technical.
