Binaries are not that important at all. A distribution which would want
to incorporate mplayer could create a package that does the compilation
when mplayer is installed. This way You would end up in a customized
MPlayer for Your system. Unfortunatly this would increase installation
time but since most programms don't have this license problems yet it
would be necessary just for mplayer and a few others for now.
Clever distributions could write a deamon that compiles mplayer in the
background and would display a short message what's going on if mplayer
is called but not yet ready.
