[MPlayer-users] Success after trying for 3+ months

Hi  all,

Just like to say thank you for a great app , i've been trying to play dvd's
on my 'puter for the last 3-4 months and mplayer worked first time :-))
with amazing picture quality and reasonably smooth playback.

But, there is always a"BUT" (sorry), on a few dvds, about 75% through
the disk one of two things happen -
a.   The machine freezes - no keyboard, nothing but to reset (misty eyed
       view back 3 years to windows >8-@ ).
b.    i'm dumped out to the login screen.

I tried mplayer  -v -dvd 1 &>mplayer.log , but when it came to the end of
the log it contained the following -

please note that i know f**k all about programming and the innards of
program's, i've been running linux for 3 years and my limits are that i can
do ./configure; make; make install. I really wish i could help more, see 
below
for system details.

Dist = SuSE 7.3
Kernel = 2.4.10
Xfree = 4.1.0

libdvdcss 0.0.2 and libdvdread 0.9.2 are working ok

machine is the following

Athlon 1.4
1Gb mem
20Gb HD
Matrox G400 16Mb
NEC DVD-ROM
Hoontech Soundtrack YMF-754 XG (Optical out :-)

If i've missed anything i'll try to help all i can and any
help given will be most welcome.
