Thanks for your answer. You seems to be a more sensitive man ....

I have a couple of problems related with mplayer. The first one is not a
real problem. It is just an absurd position taken by Gabucino (sorry,
cino!). It seems that usually there is no convenient or useful or just
recommended to use sound coming from ESD, to the point that "configure"
does not mention anything about this driver.
I own a Toshiba Tecra 8100, that is included in some of your list as
being unable to work with OSS. And it is true. (I have expend a lot of
time before realizing it).
Then, just to try, in a certain moment I wrote:

mplayer -vfm 3 -ao sdl:esd -fs ----------etc.

and suddenly everything changed. Sound was perfect but also mplayer was
a totally different one. Before I received the typical message about my
computer being too slow, etc. Now is finished. And what is most
impresive, my CPU works almost at the low limit. I have seen a couple of
films (done by myself) and the quality is almost the same (or better !!)
than seeing the DVD directly (as this one, sometimes lets appear some
horizontal white lines). DivX film is almost perfect using -pp31 as I
do.
I understand that this is not a normal "behaviour" of mplayer, but when
you say that my computer doesn't work with OSS, the only explanation is
just a "?" at the side.
I running with RH7.2 and the very last packages from Ximian, most of
them related with enlightment and esound. Perhaps now ESD is better, I
don't know. BUT IN MY CASE IT IS THE ONLY SOLUTION.

You friend Gabucino said something about playing at 48000 mh, impossible
for esd. I have no idea of that. I see MY mplayer launching wonderfully
and without any complain. So what is the matter with 48000 or 44100 or
whenever you want. You MUST say to all the people, owners of a Tecra
8100 and at the limit of despair trying OSS, what is the solution.

Enough about that and a recommendation of self-control and cold-mind to
Gabucino.

The second problem is the one related with your GUI and PNG libraries.
Having RH7.2 and Ximian, I am not allowed to change the version that
includes the distribution. I have installed the library AND THE DEVEL,
but the message remains the same. GUI compiled with png.h from one
version and using png.c from another incompatible version. Segmentation
fault. Core dumped.

Apart from that, I must say that the capabilities of mplayer seem almost
unlimited, and the cleverness of the people that have created such a
beast are without any kind of doubt. But a genius is not always a great
human being... :-)

I have never been able to run your GUI without problems. When I was with
Mandrake8.1 I was able to launch it but the same message about different
libraries come, and problems begin. On the other side, it does not seem
a very nice GUI. I would say: "more of the same", and I prefer not to
mention the horrible one designed by my, already excellent friend
Gabucino. So, I came to the idea of doing one myself. Probably I will do
it in Java. Different from all the others that we see everywhere and
very comfortable. It will work with any O.S. (as does my great program:
Metagraf), and the only inconvenient would be the need of having a JVM
installed. Now it is your turn to say if you will offer this GUI
(supposed it runs perfectly) or not at all.

I look forward for your answer.

P.S. Please, use reason and don't say things like "I hate GTK". This is
just stupid.
