i've lost the last mail from that thread so i couldn't send a reply..

gabucino told me that i didn't rtfm so i couldn't find the info about
ogg being slower
now my reply :-) :

i did some grep -i ogg *.html , grep -i vorbis *.html but i couldn't
find any info about speed....so where it is?

i tried mpg123 vs. ogg123 and watching top... i know it's not really a
precise measuring system :-)

mpg123....0.2 - 0.7% processor-time
ogg123... 0.3 - 1.5% processor-time

so yes, ogg123 is slower ( but 5 times ? )

and from http://www.xiph.org/ogg/vorbis/faq.html:
----------------------------
How fast is Vorbis?

Vorbis requires roughly the same encoding and decoding power as MP3. The
current Vorbis source is immature (and therefore generally unoptimized)
so it will also get faster as time goes on.

gabor
