Hello,
I would like to use the digital output of my soundcard.
My card has a Trident 4D wave nx chip. When I try to play
some DVD or avi with ac3 sound with the -ac hwac3 switch,
I only get awful clicking noises from the analog output
(I use a current mplayer CVS version and Linux 2.4.18 with
ALSA driver 0.9.0beta12). Using -ao oss/sdl/alsa9 gives
the same results.
DOCS/codecs.html calls the hardware AC3 decoding support
experimental and only mentions Soundblaster Live and C-Media
cards as working. Do all other cards not work at all or is
that only the case with mine?
Docs also mention that the card's driver has to properly
support the AC3 output. I don't know about that, but
digital output of AC3 or DTS data works fine with xine...
mplayer is the greatest movie player I know and so I would
really like to be able to have nice AC3 sound with mplayer
and not have to use that crappy xine anymore.
Is there any hope to get it working?
Thanks a lot,
Andreas Lange
