ok i've found it, in mp_msg.c:

#if defined(HAVE_NEW_GUI) && !defined(HAVE_MENCODER)
... (use GTK to display error/warning messages in messagebox windows)
#endif

Pontscho said it may happen because mplayer prints warnings before GTK is
inited, includeing the CPU detection results.
