the first digit like 0 describes indeed your maindevice
(soundcard). but you can have more than one subdevice on your
soundcard like some DACs or even the the IEC958 is some (virtual)
subdevice which has to be passed to alsa to be recognized. cause it
depends on the soundcard how theese components are organized the
IEC958 could be somwhere on this sublist, but its mostly [0123].
i will change now the default to a general alias for the IEC958 so i
hope nobody has to care about this subdevices anymore.
