May  be I  don't  understand; when  you  create the  vobsub  there are  two
options: -vobsuboutindex  and -vobsuboutid. Usually  I set the first  to 0,
1,  2  etc.  and the  second  to  es,  en  etc. following  the  example  in
encoding.html. This create and idx file with this info:

So the information for slang is there,  but mplayer don't use it. To select
the subtitle stream I must use -sid option which use the index value.

Any  way, if  someone  want use  english for  default,  choice the  english
subtitle as the first and, if the  basename of the avifile is the same that
idx and sub file you don't need -sid at all.
