[MPlayer-users] XV, Savage/MX and a blue image

Hi,

 I seem to have a new problem (possibly since a debian update to a newer
X version) with mplayer that now it only shows a blue image instead of
the picture when using the XV driver.   My old choice of a player (xine)
does work fine when using its XV driver, however I prefer not to use it
for various reasons.    So it's a bit odd that xine does work with xv
and mplayer doesn't.    Can anyone please shed some light on the matter?

 Here is some background info:

 I'm using Linux on x86 (IBM T22 laptop) with a 2.4.20 kernel and debian's
XFree 4.2.1.1,   mplayer 0.90rc2, xine 0.9.13.
