Hello!

I use Debian, but I will try to help you nevertheless...

I added the following to a file called mga-vid-2.4.17 in
/etc/devfs/devices.d:

# Matrox YUV Video interface
# format: name [bc] major minor uid gid mode
mga_vid c 178 0 root video 0660

After running update-devfsd or rebooting the /dev/mga_vid device node
gets created with the specified permissions.

I also put the following into my modules.conf file so the module gets
loaded automatically:

# Matrox YUV Video interface
alias char-major-178 mga_vid

I am not sure how Mandrake handles this, but it should be similar.

Let me know if this helps you, feel free to contact me with further
questions.

Diego
