Well, finally got transcode to compile.  Unfortunetly it produces the exact 
same inverse telecine problems as mplayer/mencoder.

mpeg2avi (for Windows only) produces less inverse telecine problems (not 
perfect, but closer than anything I've used), and the source code is available 
for it at:

Maybe it could be studied to figure out the differences from mplayer/mencoder 
code.  Where is the inverse telecine code in mplayer/mencoder anyway?
