[MPlayer-users] Encoding 2 chapters to 2 divx's that fit 700MB

Hi,

How would I go about encoding 1 DVD with 2 chapters to 2 divx' that
fit 1 700MB cd using 3pass encoding? :)

I did the first-pass for both chapters and these are the results:

-dvd 1:
Recommended video bitrate for 700MB CD: 2279

-dvd 5:
Recommended video bitrate for 700MB CD: 2064

Can I just assume that I should use a bitrate of 2279 / 2 = 1140 for the
first chapter and a bitrate of 2064 / 2 = 1032 for the second chapter to
get optimal results for fitting the entire DVD on one 700MB CD?

Yesterday I tried encoding chapter 1 at br=1300 and got a 285MB
resulting test.avi file with estimated 997.3 bitrate (mplayer told me
that) and it looked like crap. So i'm a bit puzzled since I've seen
DVD-Rips to Divx that uses a bitrates of about 997 that looked almost as
sharp as the DVD original.

Any ideas on this would be appreciated!!

Regards,
Sander.
