OK... got it. I used something called mmsclient for dumping the stream....
mplayer then played the stream fine.

BTW, this mmsclient thing is under the GPL v2... just like mplayer. I believe
the souce can be implemented in mplayer then.... right?

This was only a question, not a request. Developers, don't get mad at me for
suggesting it, please. I don't know about the legal issues this can cause, but
mplayer already has some support for the mms anyway.
