for example:

mencoder -oac mp3lame -lameopts abr:br=96:aq=0 -ovc lavc -lavcopts
vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate=800:vhq in.mpg -o out.avi


but you should read the whole 'man mencoder' to understand everything..

and then read the DOCS folder too....
