no such strict difference.

there is oss and alsa interface.
there are drivers. sometimes...
there are cards.

sometimes drivers are for only oss or for only alsa. it's trivial then.

sometimes drivers are available for both, but one is buggy/unstable while
the other is ok. then use the better driver. usually the alsa one is better.

sometimes drivers are available for both and both versions working fine.
sb 128pci, sb live are such thing. there is no difference then. it's rare.
