ok, i tried with the oss drivers ( emu10k1 )...

i loaded it ( modprobe emu10k1 ),
and it worked...

and i could hear the audio from the rear speakers too ( i mean i heard
something different from the rear ones than from the fron ones, so i
think 4speaker output is working ),
i used 'mplayer -ao oss -channels 4'...


but:

did anyone try alsa?

theoretically alsa works with 4speaker mode... but how?

i tried mplayer -ao alsa9 -channels 4.... this died with:

alsa-init: requested format: 48000 Hz, 4 channels, Signed 16-bit
(Little-Endian)alsa-init: 1 soundcard found, using: hw:0,0
alsa-init: unable to set channels: Invalid argument

then i tried -ao sdl... same:

SDL: Samplerate: 48000Hz Channels: Stereo Format Signed 16-bit
(Little-Endian)
SDL: Unable to open audio: 1 (mono) and 2 (stereo) channels supported

so now i wonder... did anyone succeed with this?
