Yeah, same problem. :(
You´re able to watch "output.mpg" but you can not search or author it to a dvd 
(imho the headers are incorrect).

Btw. the only application on windows which corrects the headers so you can use 
the files is TMPEGencoder... I also tried "mpgtx" on linux but as the authors 
say on the homepage, mpeg2 support is not very good, so it doesnt work 
either... :(
