[MPlayer-users] viewing and recording streams at the same time

hi guys,
i need to play and record a rtsp avi stream.
now i launch a mplayer session and a mencoder session, to view and record
this stream.

but, to reduce bandwidth requirements for server-side, i would to record
and to play at the same time.
is this a feature of mplayer/mencoder or i need to modify sources to
obtain this?
