	I installed the nVidia drivers and libraries.   One of the libs
	installed is the "libXvMC" that knows how to talk to the hardware
	decoder.   Then rebuild mplayer/mencoder (the xvmc lib is autodetected
	during configuration).

	Of course it can play HDTV 1080i in realtime (and with little main
	cpu use too).   The player demuxes the data, does some repackaging
	and hands it off to the hardware decoder.

	No - haven't tried that.   Not sure it works like that.
