The BT8x8 chips are rather old, the newcomer SAA7134 is better:
9bit A/D converter (BT8x8: 8Bit)
Better signal to noise ration than BT8x8.
Good integrated stereo decoder.
The new conexant chip CX23881 is not yet widely used, but seems to be
comparable to the SAA7134, although in the current c't TV-Card test they
write about the Hauppauge WinTV Go, which uses the CX23881 in recent
batches, that the videoquality is the same, but the audio channel
separation is not as good. Also note, that for the SAA7134 a linux
driver is available, but unless the CX23881 is backwards compatible to
the BT8x8 chips, there is none for that one yet.
