[MPlayer-users] how to extract audio and subtitles w/o video

You're right, but 'mplayer -dvd 1 -dvd-device ... -vo null -vc dummy
-ao pcm -aofile audio.wav' only takes a couple of minutes (if you
specify a non-existent video codec with -vc). Shouldn't matter THAT
much.
