No.  If I understand it correctly, that connector is just used when
using the drive as an ordinary CD-player.

I haven't looked at the internals or anything, but I don't see why it
should make a difference.

I got this with the standard kernel driver, the sourceforge driver
fixed it.  (Or perhaps it was downloading the firmware that did it,
don't remember)
