[MPlayer-users] Feature request for mpeg streams with video properties at the end

For mpeg streams with video properties at the end,
mplayer file.mpg
works, but
cat file.mpg |mplayer -
doesn't, because it can't seek.

Would it be very difficult to add an option with the parameters?
Something like video_properties=width:height:fps  or whatever is needed?

And make mplayer -vv print this information, so that for cut files, we 
can easily get them to work. My approach now is
head working.mpg | cat - file.mpg >d ; mplayer d
and hope working is the same properties, which isn't very easy.
