One idea...are the sizes of the png files all the same, and both width
and height a multiple of 2 (or better yet 4 or 16)? If not, this might
be causing problems; use -vop expand=w:h or crop=w:h to add a black
border or crop the images down so the size is good.

If you still can't figure out the problem, play the file you generated
with mplayer -v and post the FULL output of mplayer here for us to
look at.
