First I want to thank Atilla for helping me out with my initial problem in
getting started with Mencoder. That document is very good as well as the
links. I only had a little time to work with the files I have off the
tivo. But the quality seems exactly the same if 'vhq' is enabled or not.
What I want to do more than anything is take the single MPEG2 Tivo file
with the audio in the MPEG and reencode it to MPEG4. But right now I get
no sound (because I have -nosound enabled) and I can not fiugure out where
to set the option to deinterlace. Any help would be GREAT! Thanks all,
- Jason "NetDragon" Howard
P.S. - Here is what I am currently using.
mencoder CyprusXS.mpg -nosound -ovc lavc -lavcopts
vcodec=mpeg4:vhq:vbitrate=1100 -vop scale=640:480 -oac copy -o
CyprusXS_1100kbit_FULL.avi
ALso chaning the bitrate does not seem to change things at all. Odd thing
about vhq though is that it takes about 40 percent off the speed of the
encoding, even though the picture quality is the same. I think it will
look WAY better if I can deinterlace it. I am sure all that combing is not
helping the bitrate at all.
