[MPlayer-users] support for H.264?

Hello, I'm curious about the status of H.264 (both decoder and encoder).
It is listed as a supported codec at:

http://www.mplayerhq.hu/homepage/codecs-status.html

but mplayer doesn't seem to recognize any of the clips at:

http://www.vsofts.com/codec/h264_ppc.html

Perhaps this is a question for the FFmpeg list?  Perhaps the codec was
still in flux when added to FFmpeg?  It also seems like there would be a
possible license issue, unless mplayer would use the binary windows
codec, like they used to for quicktime.  It would be great to be able to
support this codec, as it sounds amazing!  Thanks.
