[MPlayer-users] Hue/contrast adjustment/luminance histogram/etc. using mplayer

I have a few (more) questions.

* Under my version of mplayer (some recent 0.9), the hue
controls don't work. I am using an ATI AIW card with the
gatos drivers - works great in general. (mplayer, xawtv
  etc.)

* Is there any software hue/color adjustment in general
filter in mplayer/mencoder? In 0.9? That would sure be
  handy.

* How can I get a histogram of the luminance values in a
frame or sequence of frames? I would like to know if my
blacks are black and my whites are white, among other things.
  I can do something like

mplayer -vo png [...some snippet of video...]

and then look at the images with Gimp. But I wonder, after
conversion to RGB, is the luminance exactly the same?
Nevermind that this is a pain.

* I would like to be able to adjust luminance values with
curves a la Photoshop, or something easier and more flexible
than gamma/contrast/brightness anyway. I wish there were a
way to specify an 8-bit lookup table, or values to
  interpolate a table from ....

Thanks. I will assimilate responses into my "Fun of Ripping
Laserdiscs" doc as time permits so that the knowledge will
be preserved and disseminated. (Hopefully.)
