[MPlayer-users] What is the meaning of the AV sync number in the playback line/drift when seeking

In both 0.9x and G2 in CVS, when I seek in MPEG2
streams, sometimes a large A-V offset appears
(several hundred milliseconds) and does not drift
back to 0.  Why is this?  Is the display in error?
