No. If there was, there wouldn't even be this discussion. The problem
is that there is no perfect solution... With NVidia you have to live
with binary-only drivers, and with ATI you have to live without many
features of the card.

Most ATI cards for quite some time have had the hardware for MPEG2
decoding built-in. Even before the Radeon line came out, it was common.
No drivers that I know of support it. GATOS drivers are pretty-much
_the_ drivers for ATI cards on XFree86 systems, and the GATOS developers
seem perfectly content to only support the basic functions of the card.
