FYI, you don't need MPlayer to do this (although you can probably use 
it).  You could instead use the "openRTSP" client application 
<http://www.live.com/openRTSP/>

Unfortunately "openRTSP" doesn't (yet) support creating "mp4" format 
files.  (That project is on our 'to do' list, but hasn't yet been funded.)
